Many Konkan residents work in major cities like Mumbai and Pune. They visit Konkan two to three times a year: during the Holi celebration, the May summer break, and the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. When these individuals return to Mumbai from their village in Konkan, they always bring Vali Judi and other presents.

Valichi Bhaji stays fresh for 4-5 days, and it’s a great exercise to share village stories when cleaning the Valichi Judi. Cleaning the Walichi Judi requires breaking it into little pieces and removing the threads on the sides. And again recall the memories while eating. Valichi Judi keeps village memories alive for the next few days.

  1. Take the bunch of Vali

  2. break the Vali into small pieces, the size of a finger

  3. Remove both the ends of the Vali

  4. While breaking the Vali's remove the threads

  5. Take out the beans from few of the Vali's

  6. Collect the Vali pieces into a bowl

  7. Take some water and wash it properly

  8. Add the squarely chopped Potatoes into the water and wash both properly

  9. Let the water to drain completely

  10. Take one Kadhai and let it heat on medium flame

  11. Add some oil and let it be hot

  12. add some Mustard seeds to it and let it crackle

  13. Add some Asafetida

  14. Add finely sliced Green Chilies and then finely chopped onions and let it become pink

  15. Add some Turmeric Powder & mix it properly

  16. Now add the Vali pieces and mix it properly

  17. Add Salt to your taste and mix it properly

  18. Close it with a Lid and let it cook for 4-5 minutes 

  19. Remove the Lid and mix it properly

  20. Now add the Freshly Grated Coconut and mix it properly and Now Turn off the Heat.

  21. Valichi Bhaji is Ready to be Served. It combines good with Chapati, Rice or Jwari Bhakri.
