Kokani people celebrate Narali Pournima, a full moon day in Shravan Month (Shravan is one of the months in the Marathi Calendar months – Rainy Season). According to the Marathi calendar, it is Shravan Month, with Narali Pournima marking the full moon. Naral means coconut, while Pournima means Full Moon Day.
Narali Pournima is very important in the Konkan region. The Fisherman’s community celebrates this day with great enthusiasm and delight. They pray to God Varun & God Samudra. Coconut is presented to God Varun and Samudra during the puja, hence it has a special significance in our life.

Those who live near the Western Ghats and rely only on the sea for food seek God’s blessings. Lord Varun is thought to have created the water and wind according to the fishermen’s demands, protecting them from harmful events that may occur when sailing the sea.
Not only do fishermen pray to Samudra Dev (Sea), but everyone does because fishing is their primary source of income and supports other enterprises.
On this fortunate day.
- Fishermen acquire new boats, repaint existing ones, and purchase new fishing nets. They do Puja for their boats and ships.
- They decorate their ships with flowers, coconuts, and colors.
- They pray and present the coconut to Lord Varun and Lord Samudra.

Fresh Grated Coconut Barfi – Khobryachi Kaapa

Very Simple yet delicious and a Traditional recipe of Coconut and Sugar.
Ingredients
Instructions

Grate the fresh coconut.

Only grate the white portion only

Turn it once into the mixer grinder.

Take one Kadhai
-
Add 4 Cups of Fresh Grated Coconut & 3 Cups of Sugar

Start the heat to Kadhai on medium heat & start mixing the mixture till the Sugar gets melted and moisture From all the mixture gets evaporated.
To check the Coconut Mixture is ready for the Barfi, Observe if the mixture will start becoming dry . -
Apply some Tup/Ghee on Wooden platform as a greasing substance and transfer all the mixture on it. Tap it equally on the sides to make it flat and of equal thickness.

Cut the Barfi in a shape as you like and let it cool for 30 to 45 minutes. Leave it at Room Temperature and let it get set and become crisp.
